Romas Švedas

Romas Švedas has twenty years experience in international relations.

In the field of International Economic Relations he participated in negotiations on Free Trade Agreements with Nordic, Baltic and Central European countries, in negotiations for Lithuanian membership in World Trade Organization (WTO), was member of bilateral intergovernmental commissions with Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Head of Lithuanian delegation in bilateral intergovernmental economic relations commission with China.

What concerns European Integration he participated in negotiations on Free Trade and Trade Related Matters Agreement with European Communities, also in Negotiations on Lithuania’s Association Agreement with EU and on Lithuania’s membership in EU, was member of Lithuanian Governmental European Union Commission, Head of Lithuanian team of Negotiations Chapter No. 26 “External Relations”. Romas Švedas was Deputy Permanent Representative of Lithuania in EU, Representative of Lithuania in the Committee of Deputy Permanent Representatives (COREPER I), Deputy Head of Lithuanian Representation in EU in Brussels (2003-2007).

In the field of Energy Policy being Vice-Minister of Energy of Lithuania (2009-2011) he was responsible for electricity interconnections with Poland (LitPolLink) and Sweden (NordBalt), LNG terminal, exploration of UGS, decommissioning of Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant and development of New Nuclear Power Plant project (Visaginas NPP). Romas Švedas was member of Baltic Energy Market Interconnection Plan (BEMIP) drafting team and representative of Lithuania in BEMIP High Level Working Group (2008-2011). During the period of 2009-2011 Romas Švedas was Chairman of the Boards of State Enterprise “Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant”, AB “Klaipėdos nafta”, AB “Litgrid” and Member of the Board of AB “Lietuvos dujos”.
