Kapuscinski Lecture in Vilnius: Think Locally, Act Globally. Simon Maxwell

The lectures honour the name of Kapuscinski, a Polish journalist and writer known as the Voice of the Poor, who died in 2007. The project is a joint initiative of the European Commission and the United Nations Development Programme.

Simon Maxwell's career in international development extends to 40 years. He worked for the UN and the British aid programme in Kenya, India and Bolivia, and for fifteen years at the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex. From 1997-2009, he was Director of the Overseas Development Institute, the UK's leading independent think-tank on international development and humanitarian issues. He is currently Executive Chair of the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (www.cdkn.org), leader of a programme of work on European Development Cooperation (www.international-development.eu) and specialist adviser to the UK House of Commons International Development Select Committee. In 2007, he was awarded a CBE for services to international development.
