Dr. Taras Kuzio currently is a Senior Research Associate at the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies, University of Alberta and Non-Resident Fellow, Center for Transatlantic Relations, School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University. He is an author and editor of sixteen books, including Putin’s War Against Ukraine. Revolution, Nationalism, and Crime (2017), and (with Paul D'Anieri) The Sources of Russia's Great Power Politics: Ukraine and the Challenge to the European Order (2018). Sergei Guriev's lecture "Growth Prospects and Challenges in Eastern Europe".

Sergei Guriev is a Russian economist, the chief economist at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. He is a professor of economics (on leave) at the Sciences Po Paris. He was a Morgan Stanley Professor of Economics and a Rector at the New Economic School (NES) in Moscow until he resigned on 30 April 2013 and fled to France.

His primary interests are in contract theory, corporate governance, labor mobility, political economics, economics of development and transition. His work has been published in international refereed journals, including American Economic Review, Journal of European Economic Association, Journal of Economic Perspectives, Economic Journal and American Political Science Review.

Jor Wiegratz will give a lecture „Power and morals: capitalism, economic fraud and social harm in Africa and beyond“. Event will take place on 26th of May (Friday), at 3:00 p.m. in room 304.  Jörg Wiegratz is Lecturer in Political Economy of Global Development at the University of Leeds. He researches the political economy and moral economy of neoliberalism in Africa and elsewhere. In the seminar, he will argue that capitalism is a moral order and moral economy, i.e. has a moral grammar. Capitalism’s moral order, together with its political-economic order, has over the last centuries produced vast social harms in numerous places, from large-scale colonial slavery, imperial wars, and workplace injuries and deaths, to climate change effects. J.Wiegratz will focus on one particularly relevant case: the massive and increasing levels of economic fraud in many countries across the world, including in sub-Saharan Africa.

All these years we have been offering not only high-quality studies and scientific research to the country and society, but also strived to inspire our students and partners. During these years many guests have visited our Institute: scientists, high-ranking diplomats, public officials and heads of states. They have inspired our community in uncountable ways – from helping us grow to making progress and change. 

It will be a whole week of festivities at our Institute on 6th-10th of February. We have an idea to share inspirational stories of our staff, alumni, friends and partners. During the week, there will be 25 meetings with inspiring people from our community who will give short speeches of 25 minutes. They will share their interests, experiences, struggles and success stories.
